During our first form of communication, we ask for your information and the best place to contact you once we’ve completed an estimate. During an initial phone call (or through email), we ask for details concerning the type of renovation desired. At this initial point of contact, we’re concerned with retrieving the right idea about the project to give the most accurate estimate.

Absolutely not. Due to our extensive and detailed planning process, the construction supervisors know when to call the sub-trades and suppliers. Once work starts, it constantly progresses until it is complete.

You should always initially consult our Project Manager. Our project manager would be your first contact for any questions or concerns. This could be about the project itself or about any work being done by a M&D staff member or a sub-trade. It’s also important for you to know that if you should ever be dissatisfied with a sub-trades work, go straight to your site supervisor and inform them immediately. The work will be completed to your satisfaction and following M&D’s standards.

M&D employs highly trained carpenters with structural expertise. We have apprentices of all levels, carpenter’s assistants and labourers, as well as a full design team and office support staff.

Our quotes are very detailed, and the prices within them are firm. With this in mind, sometimes unexpected costs occur once a project has begun. For instance, the discovery of hazardous materials that must be removed (such as asbestos). This, for instance, would be considered an additional cost (the extraction of certain hazardous materials), and you will always be informed of a possible occurrence as soon as the problem is identified. Likewise, any changes you want to make while the project is in progress may be subject to additional costs, but this will be discussed at the time.

Depending on the size of the project, we normally request an initial payment (due at the signing of the contract), stage payments (if necessary) during the renovation process, and final payment due at completion.

The client is generally responsible for clearing the area where the renovation will occur. This can include any furniture and personal items. Clearing out the area ensures any items are kept safe and clean as long as they are out of the work area.

This depends on the scope of the project. We try not to disrupt your daily schedule, and our team will help you to decide if it’s feasible. Typically, if there is at least one working bathroom, a kitchen or a meal preparation area, you should be able to remain in your home while work continues.

We take all of your contact and basic information during your initial phone call. We would like as much detail as possible about your renovation project, including how far along you are in the process.

Q. Does M & D have its own staff or does the company hire carpenters and sub-trades to complete the work?

Q. Are our prices firm or will there be extras?

Q. Who is responsible for moving personal items?
You should clear the area of any furniture and personal items before we start (this keeps them safer and cleaner if they are out of the work area).

Q. Should I move out while my renovation is being done?
This depends on the scope of the project. We try not to disrupt your daily schedule and our team will help you to decide if it’s feasible, but usually if you have at least one working bathroom and a kitchen/food preparation area then you should be able to remain in your home while work carries on. However if you are a ‘neat freak’ you may want to move out!
